The Chamber of Financial Crimes at the Rabat Court of Appeal has convicted the former Regional Director of the Moroccan Union of Banks (UBM) and a former Sixth Deputy Mayor of the Tetouan Municipality.
He was sentenced to 12 years in prison, fined 100,000 Moroccan Dirhams (MAD), and ordered to pay 320 million centimes (MAD 3.2 million) in civil compensation to the affected party.
This verdict follows the Public Prosecution’s indictment of the individual on charges related to the embezzlement and dissipation of public funds during his tenure as the director of the bank branch located in central Tetouan. Investigations uncovered significant financial irregularities and complex, illicit operations.
Security forces had arrested the accused individual (D. Z.) over a year ago inside his office at a bank branch in Tetouan. After preliminary and detailed investigations, he was referred to the Financial Crimes Chamber due to the nature of the offenses attributed to him.
The case garnered widespread attention due to the massive amounts of money involved and the sensitive positions the defendant held, both within the banking institution and in local politics (he was also formerly associated with the management office of Moghreb Tétouan football club).
