Italian authorities have reportedly arrested a 30-year-old Italian citizen of Moroccan origin suspected of founding and managing the “Movimento 17 ottobre” social media movement, accused of encouraging violent demonstrations against rising living costs.

According to the account, Milan prosecutors, counterterrorism investigators and postal police identified the suspect, referred to by the initials Y.S., as the alleged administrator of Instagram and Telegram channels used to coordinate unauthorized protests.

The demonstrations reportedly involved clashes with police, vandalism and looting in Milan and other Italian cities.

Investigators allegedly traced the suspect through digital evidence and IP addresses, with cooperation from Meta, before searching properties near Milan and in Brescia and seizing electronic equipment.

Italian media reported that prosecutors ordered his detention late Saturday on suspicion of incitement to commit crimes, with terrorism-related aggravating circumstances. No conviction has been reported.

The suspect, identified by Italian media as Youssef Siher, previously worked with the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI) and contributed to Il Fatto Quotidiano.
