Police arrested a woman suspected of using claims of “supernatural powers” and threats with a bladed weapon to take jewelry from women in Casablanca, a security source said Thursday.

Judicial police from the Ain Chock district detained the suspect Wednesday evening, September 16, in Tamaris, on the outskirts of Casablanca, following complaints from several women.

The complainants accused her of luring them into vehicles before taking their jewelry, the source said. In some cases, she allegedly threatened them with a bladed weapon. In others, she allegedly claimed to possess supernatural powers to deceive them into handing over their belongings.

Investigators searched the suspect and recovered jewelry they believe was taken through theft and fraud, according to the source. Police also seized clothing and a vehicle allegedly used to facilitate the offenses.

The woman, who the source said has a criminal record, was placed in police custody while investigators examine the allegations under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office.
