The Third International Conference for Families of Missing Persons, held in Rabat, united around 700 families worldwide grappling with the disappearance of their loved ones. Organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Central Agency for Tracing Missing Persons, and the National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the conference aimed to amplify the voices of these families.
Attendees highlighted various reasons for disappearances, including illegal immigration and involvement in conflict zones, seeking ways to engage governments and draw attention to their struggles. Discussions revolved around governmental responsiveness, psychological support, educating children about missing persons, and initiatives for economic empowerment.
Representatives from Morocco’s National Coordination for Moroccans in Conflict Zones participated, alongside Moroccan immigrants who lost contact after irregularly moving to Europe through Turkey, seeking assistance to improve their situations.
The conference emphasized collaboration with missing persons agencies and relevant governmental bodies, discussing issues such as bureaucratic challenges, inheritance complications, loss of family providers, and displacement concerns. Discussions also covered mediation efforts with Kurdish groups, strategies to prevent irregular migration, and the challenges associated with it.
