British athletics coach and former international sprinter Leon Baptiste has reportedly been missing for around two months after traveling to Morocco, according to The Guardian.
The 41-year-old athlete flew to Morocco with some close friends for what was believed to be a stag do or golf trip, yet the source said that he has not been heard from since, with messages sent to his phone reportedly going unanswered.
A former British teammate of Baptiste told The Guardian that the situation is “very worrying,” saying that “no one knows what has happened.”
The outlet reported that UK Athletics (UKA), the governing body for athletics in the United Kingdom, declined to comment, citing confidentiality, while the British Embassy in Rabat has been approached for comment.
It highlighted that Baptiste is a coach to several elite British athletes, including Paris Olympic 4x400m relay bronze medalist Charlie Dobson. He is also a Loughborough-based consultant working with UKA.
The Guardian emphasized that his absence has affected his athletes, particularly Dobson, who has been dealing with injuries and struggles during the European Championships in Birmingham earlier last week.
