Algerian internet users have reacted angrily to French journalist Anne-Laure Bonnet wearing a Moroccan caftan at the CAF Awards 2024 in Marrakech.
Users flooded her Instagram with posts such as “Algeria te … Your mother la … It’s apparently fashionable to provoke Algeria in this…”
Bonnet, a former BeIN Sports and Téléfoot presenter responded to the backlash by posting a screenshot of a hateful message on her Instagram story. “You post a photo in a caftan and the lunatics let off steam. Have a drink, it will relax you.”
On X, she clarified in a post seen over a million times that “this is not a political statement. It’s just that I can’t get enough of my first Moroccan caftan.”
