Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi arrived in the capital on Monday evening to attend the 2025 CAF Awards, which the kingdom is hosting for the second consecutive year.
Hakimi, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain, is among the leading finalists for the African Player of the Year award after an impressive season with both his club and Morocco’s national team.
Sports circles in Morocco are hopeful the star fullback will claim the continent’s top individual honor, though he faces stiff competition from Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah.
The ceremony, organized by the Confederation of African Football, is expected to draw major sports figures from across the continent and significant media attention. The event further underscores Morocco’s growing role as a continental hub for hosting major sporting events.
