A Royal Moroccan Armed Forces drone targeted a Polisario militia vehicle that breached the buffer zone and approached the berm wall near the Tichla village in the Sahara, resulting in the death of at least one member of the separatist group, Hespress sources revealed.
The buffer zone, demilitarized under the 1991 UN-brokered ceasefire between Morocco and Polisario, remains under Moroccan sovereignty, contrary to Polisario’s claims.
Despite the ceasefire, Polisario officially resumed hostilities in November 2020, frequently disrupting MINURSO operations in the area. While Morocco upholds the ceasefire agreement, it maintains the right to respond to any actions that threaten the Kingdom’s security.
