A student from the Democratic Republic of Congo was found dead in his Casablanca apartment overnight Friday, Congolese media reported, as his family called for an investigation into the circumstances.
The student was identified as Michée Munganga Wenbus, who reportedly held a master’s degree in logistics. His cause of death has not been disclosed, and Moroccan authorities have not publicly announced findings in the case.
His family urged Congolese authorities to contact their Moroccan counterparts and seek clarification about the death.
The Confederation of African Foreign Students and Trainees in Morocco, known as CESAM, confirmed that Munganga died in Casablanca on Saturday, Sept. 5.
In a statement issued Sunday, the organization extended condolences to his family, the Union of Congolese Students and Trainees in Morocco and the wider Congolese community.
CESAM also expressed solidarity with African students affected by his death.
