Police in Casablanca arrested three people Friday evening, including a pharmacist, his assistant and a woman with a prior drug-trafficking record, over suspected involvement in the illegal distribution of drugs and psychotropic substances, authorities said.
The arrests were carried out by officers from the Fida-Mers Sultan police district as part of an investigation that began Aug. 19, when police arrested a person allegedly caught selling hallucinogenic pills.
The suspect was found in possession of 25 prescriptions for controlled drugs, according to authorities. Police also arrested a pharmacist and his assistant at the time over suspected involvement in the activity, and referred them to judicial authorities after completing the investigation procedures.
Follow-up investigations led police to identify a second pharmacist suspected of participating in the alleged operation.
Police arrested the pharmacist and his assistant and found them in possession of two allegedly forged prescriptions for controlled medication, a quantity of hallucinogenic pills, various medical documents and an amount of money suspected of being proceeds from the alleged activity, authorities said.
During the same operation, officers also arrested a woman with a previous record for drug trafficking who was allegedly caught attempting to obtain hallucinogenic medication from the same pharmacy outside legal procedures.
Police said she was found carrying a prescription issued in another person’s name.
The three suspects were placed under judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office. The investigation aims to establish the circumstances of the case and identify and arrest any other people suspected of involvement, authorities said.
