A total of 45 people were killed and 3,219 others injured, including 115 seriously, in 2,341 traffic accidents recorded in urban areas across Morocco between August 3 and August 9.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the primary causes of these accidents were driver inattention, failure to yield the right of way, pedestrian inattention, excessive speed, and loss of vehicle control. Other contributing factors included unauthorized lane changes, failure to maintain safe distance, turning without signaling, running stop signs and red lights, driving on the left side of the road, improper overtaking, drunk driving, and driving against traffic.
In terms of traffic enforcement, security services recorded 52,028 violations during the same period, referring 8,125 official reports to the public prosecutor’s office and collecting 43,913 amicable fines.
The total revenue generated from these fines reached 9,360,350 Moroccan dirhams. Additionally, authorities impounded 5,505 vehicles, confiscated 8,125 driving documents, and subjected 565 vehicles to immobilization orders.
