Moroccan police arrested a 37-year-old Algerian national who also holds French citizenship in Mohammedia on Thursday, acting on an international arrest warrant issued by French authorities, Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security said.
Preliminary information from the investigation indicates that the man was listed as internationally wanted at the request of French judicial authorities in connection with a case involving alleged drug and psychotropic substance trafficking networks.
The suspect was brought before the competent public prosecutor’s office as part of the investigation and the procedures required for his potential extradition to France.
Morocco’s Interpol National Central Bureau in Rabat, which operates under the General Directorate of National Security, was tasked with notifying its counterpart in Paris of the arrest.
The arrest forms part of Moroccan security authorities’ efforts to strengthen international police cooperation and pursue individuals wanted internationally in connection with cross-border crime.
