Forty-two people died and 3,248 were injured in 2,404 road crashes recorded in Morocco’s urban areas between September 7 and 13, according to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
Of those injured, 133 suffered serious injuries, the police directorate said in its weekly statement.
Driver inattention topped the list of causes, followed by failure to yield, pedestrian inattention, speeding and loss of vehicle control. Illegal changes of direction and failure to maintain a safe following distance were also among the main causes identified.
During the same period, traffic enforcement operations recorded 51,057 violations. Police referred 7,986 reports to prosecutors and collected 43,071 settlement fines, generating 9,460,225 dirhams in revenue.
Authorities also impounded 5,401 vehicles, withdrew 7,986 documents and immobilized 592 vehicles as part of the enforcement operations.
The casualty figures cover crashes within urban areas and do not represent the total road toll across all of Morocco’s road network.
