Police in Marrakech’s old medina arrested a man on Monday evening for allegedly extorting and physically assaulting a foreign tourist.

The swift security intervention was triggered by a video posted online by the victim, which documented the suspect—who has a prior criminal record for operating as an unlicensed tour guide—demanding a sum of money for an unsolicited tour and subsequently attacking the tourist when he refused to pay.

Following rapid field investigations, local authorities successfully identified and apprehended the suspect in an alleyway within the historic district. The individual has been placed in police custody under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office as investigations continue to uncover the full details and circumstances of his criminal activities.
