A Royal Gendarmerie officer was struck by a rented vehicle in Khenifra province on Wednesday after its driver refused to stop at a roadside checkpoint, local sources reported.
The incident occurred on the road linking Ait Ishaq and Tighassaline, where the driver allegedly ignored officers’ instructions and hit a member of the patrol before fleeing with several passengers.
The suspects abandoned the vehicle at the scene and escaped in an unknown direction.
The injured gendarme was transported to Khenifra Provincial Hospital for treatment, while security services launched a search to identify and locate those involved.
Judicial police opened an investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor to establish the circumstances of the incident and determine criminal responsibility.
The attack follows a similar incident in Agadir, where a traffic police officer sustained serious injuries after being struck by a driver who allegedly refused to comply with police instructions.
