Police in Marrakech arrested a 29-year-old man on Saturday after a video circulated on social media showing him allegedly encouraging a foreign tourist to purchase drugs for personal use, authorities said.

According to a Hespress AR security source, police launched an investigation after the video began circulating online. The inquiries led to the identification and arrest of the suspect later the same day.

The suspect, who has a prior criminal record, was placed under judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor to determine the full circumstances of the case and the motives behind the alleged criminal acts, the source added.

Authorities did not disclose further details about the tourist involved or the type of substances referenced in the video.

Moroccan security services regularly monitor content circulating on social media and have taken action in several cases involving public-order offenses and drug-related crimes.
