Moroccan authorities arrested three people in September suspected of links to criminal networks involved in serious violence across Europe, Europol said Friday.
The arrests were part of Operational Taskforce GRIMM, a Europol-coordinated effort targeting “violence-as-a-service” networks that allegedly organize shootings, killings and other attacks across borders. Five suspects were arrested in Spain, Morocco and France in August and September.
In Tangier, Moroccan authorities arrested a 28-year-old Danish national on Sept. 12 who was wanted on suspicion of instigating murders and kidnappings. They also arrested a 21-year-old Swedish national in the city who is suspected of a leading role in the Foxtrot criminal network and of instigating violent crimes in Sweden and Norway.
A third Swedish national, 31, was arrested in Agadir on Sept. 25. He is wanted over two alleged cases involving preparations for murder and is suspected by Swedish police of playing a central role in directing violent activities and drug trafficking.
The wider operation also saw a Swedish national arrested in Spain and a man arrested in Paris in connection with alleged efforts to recruit people to carry out violent crimes.
Europol said the task force is targeting people suspected of ordering attacks, recruiting perpetrators and coordinating crimes from abroad. The operation focuses on disrupting networks that recruit young people through social media and messaging platforms to carry out violence for money, status or a sense of belonging.
