Authorities in several Moroccan regions have issued new instructions to accelerate eviction notices and demolition orders targeting residential buildings and public facilities deemed at risk of collapse, according to informed Hespress AR sources.

The directives were circulated to municipal leaders in the regions of Casablanca-Settat, Marrakech-Safi, Rabat-Salé-Kenitra and Fes-Meknes after local authorities received a new batch of inspection reports and technical assessments warning that the affected structures pose a danger to residents and users.

The measures cover housing units, apartment blocks and public facilities, including administrative annexes, youth centers and commercial spaces such as local markets, the sources said.

Municipal officials, particularly in suburban provinces, have already begun issuing eviction and demolition orders, with local authorities tasked with enforcement.

In the town of Dar Bouazza, demolition decisions have reportedly targeted a youth center, a National Cooperation facility and a poultry market, as well as residential buildings in neighboring municipalities.

Similar notices have been issued to residents and operators of buildings in several districts of Casablanca, including Hay Hassani and Anfa, the sources added.

According to the same sources, the accelerated pace of enforcement follows meetings held by regional governors with provincial and prefectural officials to address the growing number of buildings classified as unsafe.

The move comes amid recent incidents in Fes and in conjunction with weather warning bulletins issued by the national meteorological authority.

Regional authorities have also instructed local administrations to proceed with the execution of pending and newly issued demolition orders affecting public facilities found to threaten public safety.

In parallel, authorities are preparing to expand surveys of at-risk buildings through aerial inspections using drones. The collected imagery will be analyzed by regional authorities and cross-checked with data from urban agencies, the National Agency for Land Conservation, Cadastre and Mapping, and previous survey records.

The aim is to identify urban planning violations and guide on-the-ground interventions by local officials, including district heads and municipal leaders.

The Interior Ministry has previously sent reminder notices to provincial governors over delays in implementing the provisions of Law 66.12, which regulates the monitoring and sanctioning of urban planning and construction violations.

Central authorities cited shortcomings in holding mandated coordination meetings with architects and local officials to accelerate site inspections and curb illegal construction.

Regional governors have also called for updating registries of buildings at risk of collapse and adopting stricter criteria to assess structural vulnerability, taking into account technical data and the condition of surrounding infrastructure.

The instructions further include tighter oversight of renovation and construction permits, as well as housing conformity certificates issued in affected areas, to detect potential violations carried out under the pretext of repair work, particularly illegal vertical extensions.
