The rural commune of Imouzzer, in the Agadir Ida Outanane prefecture, recorded exceptionally heavy rainfall of 120 millimeters over the past 24 hours, according to Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology.
The agency issued a red-level weather alert, warning of strong and sometimes thundery rain ranging between 80 and 100 millimeters across several provinces.
Local authorities moved quickly to contain the impact of the severe weather.
Technical and emergency teams were mobilized on the ground, backed by significant logistical resources, to drain rainwater, protect property, and ensure the continuity of essential services while safeguarding residents.
Other areas also reported significant rainfall totals, including Taroudant with 88 millimeters, Tangier with 40, and Khouribga with 33. Cities such as Safi, Chefchaouen, Beni Mellal, Agadir, and Essaouira also recorded notable accumulations.
Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid flood-prone roads, and follow official safety instructions as unstable weather conditions persist.
