Morocco is joining the global community in observing World Diabetes Day, highlighting the urgent need to address the growing diabetes crisis in the country.
Over 2.7 million adults and 25,000 children have been diagnosed with the disease, underscoring the need for increased awareness, prevention, and comprehensive patient support.
The Ministry of Health and Social Protection is urging early detection, particularly among high-risk groups, as it leads to better healthcare and gives patients a greater chance to control the disease and avoid complications. They are also emphasizing the importance of educational support for those with diabetes, enabling them to manage their condition effectively and enhance their overall well-being.
The Ministry is currently providing treatment to over 1.5 million patients at primary healthcare facilities, following a standardized and integrated therapeutic approach. This ensures access to necessary medical support for patients, empowering them to manage their condition and improve their quality of life.
However, the Ministry also recognizes the need to reach more people and is actively organizing annual screening campaigns targeting one million people at risk.
World Diabetes Day serves as a reminder that this disease affects individuals across all age groups and requires a coordinated effort to address the rising prevalence, improve care, and ultimately reduce the burden of diabetes on Moroccan society.
