Two young women drowned early this morning off Taghazout beach in the Atlantic Ocean while attempting to migrate illegally.
The incident occurred as the women tried to escape from a gendarmerie patrol and board a traditional boat carrying other migrants.
According to Hespress sources, the women were attempting to reach the boat when they were caught in the sea and drowned.
The Royal Navy successfully rescued a young man and two other young women from the water. The navy also intercepted the traditional boat in the high seas, thwarting the migration attempt and arresting those onboard.
In a broader crackdown on irregular migration, the Royal Gendarmerie, Auxiliary Forces, and Royal Navy in Agadir managed to prevent another migration attempt on the same day. Authorities intercepted a boat and arrested dozens of individuals attempting to migrate clandestinely.
The succession of irregular migration attempts in recent days highlights the ongoing challenges and dangers currently plaguing Morocco’s coastlines.
