The President of Guinea Bissau and current chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Umaro Sissoco Embalo, left the 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), in protest against the participation of the “polisario.”
This decision reinforces the position of a large number of African countries including Senegal, which regretted that this meeting of the TICAD lacks Morocco’s participation, “a prominent member of the African Union.”
Morocco decided not to participate in the 8th TICAD Summit to be held in Tunisia on August 27 and 28 and to immediately recall for consultation the Ambassador in Tunis “following the attitude of the North African country in the process of the Japan-Africa cooperation forum, which has confirmed in a flagrant manner its hostility towards the Kingdom.”
