Moroccan travelers have reported being held for hours and denied entry at Tunis-Carthage International Airport, with some saying they were given no clear explanation for the measures.
Hespress spoke to travelers who said they had valid hotel reservations, return tickets and sufficient funds for their stays but were nevertheless stopped by Tunisian authorities on Friday.
One traveler, identified as Hamza, said officials checked his hotel booking and the money he was carrying before ordering him to wait in a designated area for several hours.
Similar incidents involving Moroccan travelers have been reported previously at Tunis-Carthage Airport. Moroccan media reported comparable cases in October 2025, when travelers said they were detained despite having travel documents, hotel reservations and proof of funds.
The latest reports come amid strained relations between Morocco and Tunisia. Moroccan authorities have previously said the issue of Moroccan travelers facing difficulties at Tunis airport had reached the Moroccan consular services, which were coordinating with authorities in Rabat.
No official explanation from Tunisian authorities for Friday’s reported incidents was cited in the reports reviewed.
