The court sentenced Muhammad Adel to death for the murder of student Naira Ashraf after she rejected his advances, a judicial source said, in a case that sparked widespread outrage.
The case was particularly followed in Egypt where a video of the student’s murder was widely shared online.
The verdict was greeted with relief outside the Mansoura courthouse, according to videos posted on social networks.
