Moroccan students in UK increase by 30% within a year

The number of Moroccan students in the United Kingdom has increased by 29.7% within one academic year, official figures have shown, received by Hespress EN.

A total of 975 students from Morocco studied in the UK during the 2019/20 academic year, which number increased to 1,265 students in 2020/21, the education search platform Erudera.com reports.

In 2020/21, the group of 1,265 Moroccon students was settled in the following UK countries:

-England 1,140
-Wales 45
-Scotland 45
-Northern Ireland 35

The universities which hosted most Moroccon students during the 2020/21 academic year include Anglia Ruskin University, Birmingham City University, The University of Bristol, Buckinghamshire New University, The University of Cambridge, The University of Central Lancashire, The University of Liverpool, The Manchester Metropolitan University, and The University of Oxford, according to the same source.

Whereas, over the past academic years, the number of students from Morocco in the UK stood at:

– 760 students during 2017/18
– 870 students during 2018/19
– 975 students during 2019/20
– 1,265 students during 2020/21

The UK is the world’s second most popular study destination among international students, by 2020/21 the UK hosted up to 605,130 international students, behind the US which leads the ranking.

Most international students in the UK come from China, India, the US, and Pakistan, among others, according to the same source.

International students enrolment at the postgraduate level between 2019/20 and 2020/21 increased by 13.08%.

Most top 3 chosen study subjects among international students in the UK included Business and Management, Engineering and Technology, and Social Sciences.

The largest number of international students in the UK study Business and Management (177,715).

Engineering and Technology is the second most chosen subject of study for international students in the UK with a total of 63,375 students.

Social Sciences and Computing rank third and fourth in the number of international students enrolled in such disciplines (51,930), added the same source.
