The US Food and Drug Administration authorized today the emergency use of the anti-Covid-19 drug of the US pharmaceutical Merck in adults at high risk.
The FDA’s move comes a day after it authorized another antiviral drug, from Pfizer.
Adults with mild to moderate Covid who are at risk for severe disease are authorized to use it, the agency said.
The oral drugs can be taken at home, and don’t require injections.
“The license adds a new treatment against Covid-19 in the form of an oral pill,” said Patricia Cavazoni, an official with the US Food and Drug Administration, quoted by Reuters.
