The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has launched a broad investigation into possible links between COVID-19 vaccines and a number of reported deaths among adults, according to U.S. health officials and documents cited by the New York Times.
The review follows an earlier preliminary assessment of reported deaths in children, which identified several cases requiring deeper analysis.
The Department of Health and Human Services, now led by vaccine-skeptic Robert F. Kennedy Jr., confirmed that the FDA is examining reports across multiple age groups.
The agency is conducting what HHS described as a “rigorous and comprehensive” evaluation to determine whether any biological or statistical connection exists between vaccination and the reported fatalities.
Since December 2020, more than 675 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the United States, according to the World Health Organization, with extensive global data showing the vaccines’ strong safety profile.Critics warn that the new investigative posture may amplify misinformation at a time when vaccination rates are already declining, while supporters of the review argue that heightened scrutiny is necessary to maintain transparency and public trust in federal health oversight.
