A United Nations source said four trucks belonging to the U.N. Mission for the Referendum in Sahara crossed east of the sand berm in recent hours without incident, despite threats by the Polisario Front to obstruct the mission’s movements since November 2020.
The convoy, carrying logistics supplies, moved under normal conditions and underscores that MINURSO continues to carry out field operations, the source told Hespress.
The United Nations is closely monitoring reports of disrupted patrols and constraints on the mission’s movements in the area, the source said.
The development comes amid ongoing U.N. discussions over limits imposed on MINURSO. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has urged the immediate lifting of any restrictions and the resumption of full cooperation with the mission, saying it is essential to protect the peace process and maintain stability.
MINURSO monitors the ceasefire between Morocco and the Polisario Front and supports U.N. efforts toward a negotiated settlement.
