Uncertainty is deepening over the circumstances surrounding the death of a newborn delivered last Wednesday aboard a Rabat-Sale tram, as reports suggest the baby’s mother was denied admission at Moulay Abdellah Hospital in Sale.
A hospital source, however, points to what they described as “suspected medical negligence.”
A staff member at the hospital told Hespress AR that the woman who gave birth inside one of the tram cars “does not appear on the hospital’s intake list.” The source added that the newborn later died at a hospital in Rabat.
The same source said the refusal to admit the woman reflects “routine practices” at the facility due to a severe shortage of obstetric staff. “Admission capacity is often restricted, and visitors are deliberately not registered on intake lists,” the staff member said.
The source maintained that the responsibility lies with the Ministry of Health, which has “failed to provide sufficient obstetric personnel, particularly gynecologists.” They added that midwives fear potential criminal liability if complications arise during deliveries amid ongoing staff shortages.
According to the source, the hospital administration has launched an internal investigation focused primarily on the absence of the woman’s name from the intake records.
Hespress was unable to obtain comment from the management of Moulay Abdellah Hospital despite multiple attempts to reach the facility.
