Moroccan police seized 25 kilograms of pure cocaine at the Tangier Med port on Sunday, July 20, foiling an international drug trafficking attempt linked to a South American network.
Authorities said the cocaine was hidden inside the refrigeration system of a shipping container that had arrived from a port in South America and was destined for the Netherlands. The narcotics were packed into 23 tightly sealed bricks, camouflaged within legitimate cargo.
The Tangier Judicial Police have launched an investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office to determine the full extent of local and international connections involved in the trafficking network.
Officials say the seizure reflects Morocco’s heightened efforts to combat international drug trafficking, particularly operations involving powerful narcotics and psychotropic substances. Security measures at Tangier Med have been ramped up in recent years to prevent traffickers from exploiting global shipping routes.
Authorities underscored their ongoing commitment to dismantling cross-border criminal networks using Moroccan territory as a transit point for illicit drugs bound for Europe.
