As of May 1, Morocco’s digital payment landscape has seen four major banks, Attijariwafa bank, Bank of Africa, BCP Group, and CIH Bank, officially launching or expanding their merchant acquisition subsidiaries.
These include Attijari Payment, Damane Cash, Chaabi Payment (via M2T), and Lana Cash.
The move follows the Competition Council’s 2024 decision to end the long-standing monopoly held by the Centre Monétique Interbancaire (CMI), which is now limited to technical processing.
These new players can now equip merchants with point-of-sale (POS) terminals, offer e-commerce solutions, and process transactions within a certified framework.
The goal is to reduce costs, enhance innovation, and promote financial inclusion. Attijari Payment, licensed in March 2025, offers full digital services, while Damane Cash leverages 4,200 service points for local reach.
Chaabi Payment targets both SMEs and large retailers, and Lana Cash, backed by CIH Bank, is now fully licensed to process local and international card payments.
