Government spokesperson Mostapha Baitas underscored that the Ministry of Health has taken all necessary measures to ensure the meningitis vaccine is available in sufficient quantities. This move comes as “Saudi authorities have made vaccination mandatory for those wishing to perform Umrah.”
During his weekly press briefing following the government council on Thursday, Baitas noted that “the ministry has distributed the vaccine across approved health centers nationwide, as well as at Pasteur Institutes.”
He added that “the ministry continues its efforts to replenish the national stock of the vaccine while ensuring that the reserve stock remains unaffected.”
Baitas also “urged citizens to visit the nearest approved health center to their residence to avoid overcrowding.”
This comes as dozens of citizens from various cities across Morocco faced difficulties last Monday when they went to the Pasteur Institute in Casablanca hoping to receive the mandatory meningitis vaccine for performing Omrah during Ramadan.
But due to an overwhelming turnout, many were left waiting for long hours, and some were unable to get the vaccine at all.
Videos circulating on social media captured the frustration of pilgrims, with some reporting that the large number of people who arrived early in the morning overwhelmed the center, creating a chaotic situation.
Citizens complained about poor organization, as hundreds were left uncertain about whether they would be able to receive the vaccine. The Pasteur Institute recently reassured pilgrims, stating that it has increased its stock to prevent any shortages.
