New Year’s festivities in the province of Salerno turned tragic as fireworks-related incidents left eight people injured, including two Moroccans who sustained severe injuries.
According to Italian media reports, a 22-year-old Moroccan man suffered the amputation of his right hand in an accident in the Agro Nocerino Sarnese area. He was rushed to a local hospital after receiving first aid at the scene.
In a separate incident, a 45-year-old Moroccan man lost his left hand and wrist in a fireworks explosion. Due to the severity of his injuries, he is expected to be transferred to the Pellegrini Hospital in Naples for specialized treatment.
The accidents also resulted in six other injuries of lesser severity in Salerno. Among the victims were a 35-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man, both of whom sustained eye injuries and were taken to the hospital for medical care.
Authorities are investigating the incidents as part of broader efforts to ensure public safety during celebrations, which are often marred by the misuse of fireworks.
