Brazilian authorities successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle 605 kilograms of cocaine through the Port of Santos in São Paulo state, meticulously concealed within a shipment of 13 tons of frozen açaí berries destined for export, according to a statement from Brazil’s Federal Revenue Authority (RFB).
According to the RFB statement, customs officers discovered the cocaine during a routine inspection on Thursday, in a shipment that was initially intended for Morocco’s Tanger Med port, with plans for further transfer to Portugal. A detailed inspection revealed the cocaine hidden in four out of eighteen crates within the container.
The RFB noted that its export inspections follow strict protocols using scanning technologies to facilitate smooth foreign trade while curbing illegal activities. Upon confirming the presence of cocaine in the shipment, the agency immediately called in federal police officers to conduct a thorough investigation and prepare a legal case related to the incident.
