The High Commission for Planning (HCP) announced that Morocco’s 2024 national census, set to commence on September 1, is budgeted at 1.46 billion dirhams.
According to the HCP, 67% of the budget will be allocated to participant indemnities, while 20% will cover material and logistical costs. Technological expenses, including high-end tablets used for the census, will account for 13% of the total budget.
To ensure comprehensive coverage, the HCP has completed a cartographic assessment identifying 37,109 census zones across both rural and urban areas. After the census, dynamic, interactive maps will be created and made accessible via a dedicated platform. These maps will provide insights into economic activities and detailed data on education and healthcare at national, regional, and local levels.
Ahmed Lahlimi Alami, the High Commissioner for Planning, noted that the mapping identified over 1.3 million active economic establishments, with more than 85% being for-profit organizations, as well as over a thousand active weekly markets.
Lahlimi also emphasized the crucial role of the press in promoting citizen participation. He expressed confidence that Moroccans’ commitment to the census, driven by a “deep sense of national duty,” will contribute to its success.
