Morocco’s Minister of Health, Khalid Ait Taleb, has announced that while a total of 54,423 side effects related to the AstraZeneca vaccine were reported, only 211 were classified as serious according to World Health Organization standards.
These figures emerged in response to a parliamentary inquiry about deaths and disfigurements linked to the vaccine.
Ait Taleb emphasized that no cases of thrombocytopenia syndrome leading to death, a rare blood clot condition associated with the vaccine in some countries, were recorded in Morocco.
He said that the reported side effects are normal immune responses to the vaccine, designed to stimulate the body’s defenses without exposing individuals to the disease.
Morocco established a robust monitoring system to ensure vaccine safety, including the Moroccan Center for Poison Control and Pharmacovigilance, said the minister.
This center collects and analyzes reports of side effects, provides follow-up care for seriously affected patients.
