120,000 Moroccan families currently live in slums, with 63% residing in Casablanca, according to Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, Minister of National Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and Urban Policy.
Addressing the House of Councillors on Tuesday, Mansouri highlighted that by the end of May 2024, living conditions will have improved for approximately 347,000 families, or 74% of those in slums, benefiting around 1.7 million people.
The minister added that Morocco has increased its annual rate of resettling families from slums from 6,200 families between 2018 and 2020 to 18,600 families per year between 2022 and 2024, emphasizing that the primary goal is to completely eradicate slum housing in Casablanca by 2028.
