In a remarkable achievement for the agricultural sector, Al Moutmir, the agricultural initiative, presented the promising results of its dedicated Demonstration Platforms (PFDs) for cereals and legumes.

Through the adoption of optimal technical practices in conventional and direct sowing systems, Al Moutmir has demonstrated a significant improvement in agricultural yield.

Since the launch of the Al Moutmir initiative, more than 14,800 cereal and legume demonstration platforms have been established. In the agricultural year 2022-2023 alone, over 3,640 demonstration platforms were set up, benefiting more than 730 farmers.

The Integrated Crop Program (ICP) formed the core of the technical approach in these demonstration platforms, based on four pillars: rational water and irrigation management, customized fertilization, integrated crop protection, and the use of suitable products.

Under the guidance and support of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University of Benguerir and other national and international scientific partners, the Al Moutmir program has been able to offer cutting-edge research, innovation, and expert guidance to the farmers.

This collaboration has resulted in improvements in crop yields ranging from 22% to 34% per hectare compared to average yields achieved by farmers in control plots.

On July 20, 2023, Al Moutmir organized the 12th edition of Al Moutmir Open Innovation Lab in a hybrid format, both in-person at UM6P Benguerir and virtually on Microsoft Teams.

The event brought together more than 150 participants, including researchers, scientists, economists, agronomists, farmers, institutional partners, professional organizations, and industrial partners.

The main objective of this event was to share the results of the 2022-2023 cereal and legume demonstration platforms in both conventional and direct sowing systems.

It also aimed to stimulate discussions on the development of this crucial sector, vital for the kingdom’s food security and sovereignty.

The impacts of the demonstration platforms on national agriculture have been outstanding. The average grain yield for cereals increased by 34% compared to control plots, while legumes witnessed a yield improvement of approximately 22%.

These results were achieved despite the challenging climatic conditions, including reduced precipitation.

The success of the Al Moutmir initiative has been acknowledged, and it was honored with trophies presented to agricultural professional organizations and partnering farmers who demonstrated commitment and achievements.

Al Moutmir’s program of Demonstration Platforms has showcased a new model of development for sustainable agriculture in Morocco and Africa.

By employing scientific research, innovation, and agricultural counseling, Al Moutmir has proven the effectiveness of its approach, offering concrete solutions for farmers to enhance their productivity, income, and ecological sustainability.

The results shared during the Al Moutmir Open Innovation Lab event underscore the importance of continuing to invest in research, innovation, and the adoption of modern agricultural practices to ensure a prosperous and sustainable future for Moroccan agriculture.
