Ministry of Health and Social Protection in Rabat inked an agreement with various syndicates of pharmacists, outlining a number of priority applications. The agreement, signed with the National Federation of Moroccan Pharmacists Syndicates, the Confederation of Moroccan Pharmacists Syndicates, the National Syndicate of Moroccan Pharmacists, and the National Federation of Moroccan Pharmacists, expressed the ministry’s readiness to study the draft National Authority Law No. 98-18.

Under the agreement, the pharmacy profession will be actively involved in all projects related to the pharmacy sector, and the Ministry of Health and Social Protection will keep a close watch on all stakeholders in the health sector to ensure the legal conduct of medicines in full compliance with the requirements of Law 17-04.

The agreement also underlines the pressing need to establish a framework law for food supplements in the near future, develop a legal framework for determining the prices of medical supplies, control the legal course of veterinary medicines, and study the possibility of applying medication replacement.

Of note, the parties have agreed to undertake a thorough review of the economic model of pharmacies by conducting studies to institutionalize new tasks for national pharmacies and approving new compensation for health services provided in support of hospital institutions.

The Director of Medicines and Pharmacy at the Ministry of Health, Aziz Merabti, stated that a joint committee has been established to track the implementation of reform projects related to the pharmacy sector. He also emphasized the ministry’s unwavering commitment to dialogue with all trade unions and praised the efforts made by pharmacists to ensure the provision of medicines to citizens.

The representatives of the trade union centers expressed their strong willingness to work with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection to present proposals in preserving the sustainability of the insurance funds and facilitating citizens’ access to medicine. They also affirmed their unwavering determination to schedule other meetings in order to rapidly advance the sector and improve the status of pharmaceutical activity while fully respecting the laws in force.
