The Network of Associations for Animal Protection and Sustainable Development (RAPAD) strongly condemned dog abuse at the publicly financed Arjat facility for stray dogs near Rabat.
The network told Hespress AR that they were “shocked and outraged” to witness the videos and photographs showing “the heinous acts and animal torture “in the local animal center.
The network of associations pleaded with the people in charge to “take the necessary measures immediately to ensure the welfare of the animals in the Arjat shelter.”
” The center should take into account these animals’ treatment since the facility is dedicated to the ethical management of street dogs” according to RAPAD.
The network of associations rejected the “defenses” put up by the facility’s managing organization to explain the tragedy.
The justifications of the association chosen to manage the dispensary ‘’conflict with the TNR agreement for the method of administering the animals and the facility’’, according to the Network for the Advocacy of Animal Rights in Morocco.
RAPAD is calling for an investigation to “identify the reasons and circumstances of these acts and imbalances that led to such immoral and inhumane attitudes, and to determine the responsibilities”.
Earlier last month, Left Federation advisors of Rabat City Council published a video showing the center’s terrible treatment of the dogs.
The clips have sparked a furious anger among the general public and animal lovers, because of the condition the animals appeared to be in in the photographs shot inside the shelter.
Parallel to this, RAPAD is requesting that the 2019 TNR Agreement be implemented “seriously, ethically, strictly applying norms and laws aimed at protecting animals, and taking all necessary measures to ensure their protection.”
The group in charge of the facility denied claims of “mistreatment of stray dogs” in a statement to HespressAR, highlighting the fact that “dogs are cared for in accordance with what is called for by international conventions for the protection of animals.”
