A man in his 50s was killed Wednesday after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs near the village of Ait Ben Haddou in Morocco’s Ouarzazate province, according to local sources cited by Hespress.
The man suffered severe injuries and heavy bleeding during the attack and died at the scene, the sources said. Local authorities, police and civil protection teams responded to the incident, while prosecutors opened an investigation into the circumstances. The victim’s body was taken to a provincial hospital for an autopsy.
The attack has sparked concern among local residents and civil society groups over the growing presence of stray dogs in the area. Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a major tourist destination that attracts Moroccan and international visitors as well as international film productions.
Local activists have called on municipal authorities and veterinary services to take urgent measures to control the stray dog population, including through collection and vaccination programs.
