In an effort to pave the way for the establishment of a university that further supports entrepreneurship and innovation, the Moroccan Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, and the African Development Bank convened a workshop for reflection and exchange today in Rabat.

The event, which was presided over by the secretary general of the ministry, Mohamed Khalfaoui, and the country representative for the Bank in Morocco, Achraf Tarsim, included participation from members of the Moroccan entrepreneurial ecosystem as well as ministerial representatives and presidents of both public and private universities.

Contributing to the “Strategy for the Emergence of the Moroccan Entrepreneurial and Innovative University” was the workshop’s main goal.

According to a press statement from the ministry, this vision is a component of the strategic priorities King Mohammed VI has outlined for the Kingdom’s new development model, of which the modernization of the educational system is a key axis.

Entrepreneurship, particularly innovation, is a significant lever for updating the economic fabric and opening it up more to a technological market and new technologies, in addition to its huge potential for boosting private investment and creating job opportunities.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Higher Education, Khalfaoui stated in his introductory remarks that this represents a genuine added value for the Moroccan economy.

Since the beginning of its operations in Morocco, the African Development Bank Group has mobilized more than twelve billion US dollars for the benefit of the sectors of health, water, human development, agriculture, energy, transport or the financial sector.
