Unexpectedly, the government council held today did not include approving the extension of the state of health emergency, set to expire on February 28.
An informed source revealed to Hespress that the government will not extend the state of health emergency.
The same source indicated that lifting the state of health emergency will be done automatically without the need for a new decree, highlighting that the government can declare a new health emergency by decree if necessary.
A state of health emergency is declared when necessary, by virtue of a decree taken on a joint proposal of the two governmental authorities in charge of the Ministry of Interior and Health.
The duration of the state of emergency can be extended by decree, which has been the case in Morocco since the COVID-19 outbreak in March 2020.
