The United States Mission in Morocco announced on Saturday the launch of the #She Is A Scientist campaign, which celebrates the accomplishments of talented Moroccan women and girls working in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) who have participated in U.S. exchange programs.
“Educational, cultural, and professional exchange programs are an essential part of the U.S.-Morocco relationship, allowing our two countries to strengthen the already strong people-to-people ties between Americans and Moroccans of all backgrounds — and building on more than 240 years of friendship.” said the mission’s press release.
Since 2012, the United States has supported a wide range of local capacity-building programs and exchange opportunities in the United States aimed specifically at Moroccan women working in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math — in recognition of the increasingly important role that women play in these rapidly developing fields.
These programs have involved around 1500 young Moroccan women aged 15 to 35.
These highly competitive programs enable Moroccan girls and women of diverse profiles to connect with their counterparts in the United States while honing their leadership skills, strengthening their networks, and supporting the next generation of Moroccan and American women and girl leaders pursuing careers in STEM fields.
The main component of the #She Is A Scientist campaign is a country-wide project called Girlz for Impact Days, which consists of two weeks of STEM-focused initiatives taking place across Morocco between March 8 and 20.
These nationwide volunteer programs, which are open to Moroccan women and men, will serve as a concrete way to honor Moroccan women who have achieved success in the STEM sectors and inspire young women to do the same.
“The #She_Is_A_Scientist campaign aims to accelerate momentum in recognizing, highlighting, and celebrating the past, present, and future accomplishments of women and girls in STEM in Morocco, the United States, and globally.” Noted the US mission on the release.
