US Embassy in Morocco cuts social media updates during funding gap
Monday 2 February 2026 - 16:39

US Mission in Morocco said on its social media account that it will not update regularly during a lapse in appropriations, except for urgent safety and security information, and that full posting will resume when operations fully restart.

The mission said American Citizen Services and scheduled visa services at US Consulate General Casablanca will continue during the funding lapse, and directed the public to its website for operating status and services.

A lapse in appropriations is a federal funding gap that occurs when budget authority expires before United States Congress passes new spending legislation, triggering legal limits that generally bar agencies from obligating funds except for specific permitted activities.

US Department of State says consular operations remain operational during a lapse in government funding, including passports, visas and assistance to US citizens abroad, while some domestic support functions can be suspended.
