Morocco National Football Team Head Coach Walid Regragui considered Wydad Athletic against Al-Hilal in the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup a “trap”, stressing that the victory of Wydad AC in the match would bring confidence for a spot at the tournament’s final.
In an interview published on the official FIFA Website, Regragui said “Al-Hilal is considered the Real Madrid of the Asian continent, and it is a big club with important capabilities, and its confrontation with Wydad will be quite the contest.”
He added, “Al-Hilal has an ardent fanbase and high-level players, the same applies to Wydad, since the game will be played in Morocco, this will serve the interest of Wydad.”
Regarding the names of the players he sees in the official Wydad starting lineup, Regragui said: “The matter will not change much from last season.”
He continued: “Al-Hassouni may discover his talent more in the World Cup. Wydad has a good group, and he has strengthened its ranks with other names. Facing Al-Hilal is a trap. If Wydad overtakes him, he will be close to reaching the final to face Real Madrid.”
“Everyone will discover that Wydad has an exceptional audience like the fans of South America, if not better. I experienced an exceptional season at the helm, and Casablanca is a city that loves football.”
“After our busy campaign in the last World Cup, it is nice to watch the Club World Cup in Morocco. Everyone will discover good audiences and stadiums.”
The captain of the Atlas Lions pointed out that “Real Madrid is the best club in the world, crowned with many titles, and is always present on major dates. They have a winning mentality. It is a great honour for Morocco to host this club, and Spanish football enjoys an important following in Morocco.”
The Kingdom of Morocco will host the FIFA Club World Cup between the cities of Tangier and Rabat, between the 1st and the 11th of February.
This edition of the “Mundialito” will witness the participation of 7 clubs, Wydad Athletic Club, Al-Ahly Club of Egypt, Al-Hilal Saudi Arabia, Spanish Real Madrid, Brazilian Flamengo, New Zealand’s Auckland City, and the American Seattle Sauders.
