Fuel prices in Morocco have gone up to MAD 14 a liter this Wednesday, for both diesel and gasoline, making it one of the most spectacular increases in the history of Morocco.
Another unprecedented fact is the price of diesel exceeding that of gasoline. While the latter has reached more than MAD 14.20 per liter this March 30, diesel has broken all records.
Gas stations across the country’s biggest cities show prices above MAD 14.30 per liter. Moroccans are in utter shock at the price rises, despite a progressive increase throughout the past two months.
Two weeks ago, some Moroccan station had already set the unprecedented price of MAD 14 for a liter of gasoline, which was widely shared across social media. But other suppliers had maintained the price around the MAD 12 mark.
Accentuated by the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, fuel prices have risen across the world, despite regular fluctuations in international markets.
Oil prices plunged this Thursday, following the United States’ announcement it was considering a 180 million barrel release from its Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), “the largest output in the SPR’s history,” reports Reuters.
“Brent crude futures for May fell $6.95, making up a 6.13% decrease, to $106.50 a barrel,” according to reports. But despite the international drops, the domestic market is still far from reflecting the drops.
