Together with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Bank Al-Maghrib initiated the process of drafting a strategy dedicated to the economic empowerment of rural women as part of its strategy to encourage financial inclusion, announced Bank Al-Maghrib in a press release.
In collaboration with the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) and the international academic institution Fletcher School, Bank Al-Maghrib conducted exhaustive analyses of socioeconomic conditions of rural women in Morocco resulting in the policy draft.
A first workshop assembling public and private actors of the financial inclusion ecosystem (Ministries, public institutions and agencies, professional associations, and civil society associations) was arranged by the national bank on March 8, 2022, in Rabat, with the support of AFI and EBRD.
The collective worked on the first stages of the project through the activities of the workshop, which allowed to establish the current state of financial and economic inclusion of rural women, identify the challenges to be met and the policy to be put in place, identify the potential pillars for the economic empowerment of rural women, decide on the approach to take for the next stages of the project.
As a part of its initiatives to encourage the economic inclusion of rural women, Bank Al-Maghrib expects to schedule other meetings with the different actors concerned to expand this project.
