A fireball flew across the skies of North Morocco at 255,000 km/hour on Sunday night, said the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia.
At its brightest, the meteoroid looked like the full Moon, and was seen all the way from Andalusia, in southern Spain.
The meteoroid originated from a comet that intersect with the Earth’s orbit.
It exploded several times as it traveled, causing sudden bursts of light across a total distance of about 198 km in the atmosphere of earth, reported Spanish agency EFE.
It eventually died out at an altitude of about 62 kilometers above northeastern Morocco, almost vertically above the town of Tafersit.
The meteoroid was detected from the Spanish astronomical observatories of Huelva, El Aljarafe, Seville, Sierra Nevada and La Sagra (Granada), Calar Alto (Almería) and La Hita (Toledo).
