Ambassador and Head of the European Union (EU) delegation to Morocco, Patricia Llombart Cussac, said that the Kingdom is “a model of security and stability” and “an active actor” on the African continent.
Cussac noted during a meeting with Rachid Talbi Alami, the President of Morocco’s House of Representatives, on Thursday, January 27 that “the EU and Morocco share great ambitions and share many common challenges, such as the environment, energy transition, green economy, migration, and others.”
The ambassador stressed that the European Parliament attaches “great importance to the establishment of strong relations with the Kingdom.”
The official welcomed the partnership between the Moroccan Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and the positive results of the cooperation program between the EU and the Moroccan legislative institution.
Cussac praised the democratic climate in which the legislative elections were held last year and congratulated Talabi Alami for the confidence placed in him by deputies.
The President of the House of Representatives said that the Moroccan Parliament has established the Moroccan-EU Joint Parliamentary Committee, expressing its firm determination to work to strengthen coordination and consolidate the rapprochement between the two parties.
Talbi Alami also said he appreciated the great role played by the Moroccan community residing in Europe as a bridge to promote communication, security and development, highlighting Morocco’s role as “a haven of security and stability in the region.”
He also called for concerted international efforts to overcome the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, stressing that “we must give priority to development and economic recovery and meet the urgent needs of citizens.”
The meeting was an opportunity to exchange and discuss a number of issues and topics of common interest, as well as prospects for Moroccan-European parliamentary cooperation, according to a press release from the House of Representatives.
